Large-scale restoration work of the Epiphany Cathedral is planned in Kostroma this spring. According to the plan of the performers, in April the builders and reenactors will begin the construction of the historical complex, which was destroyed back in the 30s of the last century. Work will begin with the cathedral's bell tower, which should be fully restored by the end of this year. In addition to the usual historical shape, the bell tower will receive two high-speed elevators at once.
The idea of restoring the Kremlin of Kostroma arose last year from the moment of the visit of the Patriarch of All Russia Kirill, with whose direct participation the first stone was consecrated and laid here. The proposal of the top leadership of the Russian Church was also supported by the government. Minister of Culture V. Medinsky noted that the restoration work will require colossal financial investments. But it is very important to restore a cultural and historical site. Therefore, it was decided to shift financial concerns to the off-budget sector, that is, to the shoulders of potential sponsors of the reconstruction.
The project was developed by the architect A. Denisov, who proved his high skill during the reconstruction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, located in the Russian capital. He assured that he would make every effort to ensure that the Kostroma Cathedral was restored in the smallest details of that time and thanked all local residents who for many years collected materials and photographs of the destroyed temple. According to the architect, the collected descriptions of the object are so accurate that it will not be difficult for the construction team to recreate the temple with 100 percent accuracy.
They plan to start work with the restoration of a huge bell tower, which, even by the standards of that distant time, was distinguished by its scale. The height of the tower was 64 meters and was the result of painstaking work of the famous architect S. Vorotilov. According to eyewitnesses, it was the bell tower that represented the main attraction of the cathedral, and its ringing was heard for hundreds of kilometers along the Volga river.
The Governor of Kostroma S. Sitnikov noted that the main task of the reenactors is to restore the cathedral in its historical form. In this case, only modern materials will be used. Well, the elevators will be able to deliver everyone to the observation deck, which will be located at a height of 43 meters.
