Dulber Palace is not just a large-scale building, it is a full-fledged palace and park ensemble, in harmony with the terrain of the Crimean peninsula.

History and description

Having become the embodiment of the Moorish-romantic style, it received the appropriate name - beautiful, charming, that is, a rappel in Arabic. The palace owes its appearance to Peter Romanov, who lived far from the royal court... Despite his origin, the prince did not strive for power due to his simplicity and compliance of character. Peter carried out military service, which he eventually had to leave due to illness - he suffered from tuberculosis. Warm Crimea became a favorite vacation spot for the prince, and he bought a plot of land for himself in order to build a palace complex.

However, a native of the royal family was in no hurry to start construction work. Immediately after acquiring the land, he began a journey through the Mediterranean countries and stayed for a long time in Egypt - the climate of this country turned out to be so beneficial for his health. Here the prince became interested in the architecture of ancient Cairo, and he gladly sketched the buildings he liked.

Impressed by the beauty of the Egyptian buildings, Pyotr Nikolaevich returned to Koreiz (now Miskhor) and made some sketches of the estate's drawings, trying to fit them into the style of the Bakhchisarai Palace, which was fashionable at that time. The prince involves the architect Krasnov in his work, and together they develop a project for the luxurious Dulber Palace, the outbuildings of his courtyard and the surrounding park. The result of such work is a wonderful castle that conveys the rich experience of the architect and shows the exquisite taste of the owner.

Work on the construction of the Dulber Palace was carried out over two years - from 1895 to 1897... So Krasnov once again earned universal recognition, and Peter Romanov received an estate for recreation, in which he lived with his family for only a few months a year. An interesting fact is that the prince's relatives did not support his venture associated with the construction of his own palace. Romanov's entourage believed that he wanted to distance himself from society and retire, like a recluse, in a palace. However, none of the confidants then could have known that it was the Dulber Palace that would eventually become the only safe place for the whole family of Peter Nikolaevich. In 1917, in connection with the events in the country, the Romanovs had to urgently go to the peninsula, and not of their own free will, but at the behest of the Provisional Government. And the palace itself, later recognized as one of the attractions of the Crimea, then turned into a fortress, guarded by armed sailors and equipped with machine guns. This means that the Romanov family was under arrest.

With the arrival of February 1918, the Romanovs were in fear, because the Bolsheviks demanded that they be executed as soon as possible. Now the palace has become a thick-walled structure, the premises of which were used as a prison for the princely family, but at the same time it turned for her and into a fortress protecting life. Subsequently, the prisoners recalled how they sat in captivity and did not have the opportunity to fully eat. Of course, the cook tried his best, trying to please the prisoners of the palace-fortress, but the Romanovs were more oppressed not by the lack of communication and good food, but by complete isolation from the world combined with the unknown. Finally, in the spring of 1919, the prisoners began to leave their confinement - Empress Maria Feodorovna and people close to her house were allowed to sail away by ship to Europe.

Architectural features of the Dulber Palace

Krasnov's masterpiece is a solid white and blue palace building that accommodates more than a hundred rooms on its territory. According to the architect, it was built on the model of ancient Cairo buildings and corresponded to the Arab-Saracenic style. The structures that make up the palace vary in height, but they all culminate in jagged parapets and silver domes.

The white surface of the walls is decorated with stone carvings, mosaic compositions, fancy wooden balconies. The palace of extraordinary beauty, surrounded by fan palms, resembles a piece of paradise in ancient Egypt of the 15th century. The Arabic script, which adorns the entrance of a really charming sight of Crimea, proclaims that Allah blesses everyone who enters the territory of the palace.

The park, rich in unusual plants, surrounds the Dulber Palace, complements and decorates it... If you look at the palace from the side, it can be noted that it is precisely inscribed in the small space of the hollow leading to the bay, and all the park greenery, as it were, protects it from the familiar surrounding world. The park itself is also distinguished by its extraordinary design - it is rich in gazebos, sculptures, many artificially created reservoirs and fountains. Walking in the territory of the palace park brings a lot of pleasure and gives a feeling of being in the present. botanical garden - all its plants are so unusual and unique. The park is replete with many arches entwined with ivy and roses. But the most attractive place in it is the palm alley located right at the main entrance.

The fate of Dulber Palace after the 1917 revolution

Under Soviet rule, the Romanov Palace Dyulber turned into a health resort called "Red Banner"... Only two categories of persons were accepted here for treatment - former political convicts and political workers. In 1938, another building was added to the main building of the palace, repeating the style of the original structure. And since then, access to the palace grounds for ordinary citizens has been closed. It is noteworthy that an inscription resembling Arabic script appeared above the entrance to the second building. But it did not say at all about the mercy of Allah - it was an excerpt from the Constitution of Stalin, asserting that all Soviet citizens have the right to rest.

With the onset of Hitler's troops, which had been rampaging on the territory of the USSR for four years, the palace was significantly damaged. But after the war, it was rebuilt by the hands of Romanian and German prisoners of war (1946-1949). In the future, the sanatorium "Krasnoe Znamya" continued to receive vacationers, who were exclusively leaders of the Communist Parties - both domestic and those who came from abroad.

The year 1982 was marked for the health resort by receiving a government award in the form of the then honorable Order of the Red Banner of Labor. Since that time, the former palace began to grow with new buildings and adjacent territories, its park grew and became more beautiful.

And in 1977, the health resort was supplemented with a third dormitory building - a 10-storey white building, stretched out on the Black Sea coast. If you look at the changed palace complex from the sea, you can see an unusual combination of ancient silvery palace domes with the roof of a high-rise fashionable building, the spacious loggias of which "look" towards the sea. But in the third, dormitory building, there are not only rooms for vacationers. It accommodates the entire infrastructure of the complex, represented by a number of amenities:

  • gym;
  • barbershop;
  • billiard room;
  • canteens;
  • pool with heated water coming from the sea;
  • sauna and massage parlor;
  • manicure and medical offices;
  • medical post.
